Biography

B21 are an English bhangra band from Birmingham formed in 1996. The ensemble consists of brothers Bally Jagpal and Bhota Jagpal, and originally included Jassi Sidhu, who departed in 2002. The group's name is derived from the postcode for the Handsworth district of Birmingham. They released their debut studio album, The Sounds of B21 (1996), and received the Best Newcomers award at the 1998 Movie Pageant Awards. Their recording career includes the studio albums By Public Demand (1998) and Made in England (2000), the latter featuring the track “Darshan” (2000), which appeared in the film Bend It Like Beckham (2002). An instrumental version of the track was utilized during the opening ceremony of the 2002 Commonwealth Games. Their discography includes the studio recordings Long Overdue (2002), Aashiqui (2004), and 12B (2014). The album 12B received the Best Album award at the 2014 Brit Asia TV Music Awards. The ensemble was named Best Band at the 2003 UK Asian Music Awards.
