Biography

Avenue D was an American electroclash duo from Miami, Florida, formed in 2001 by Debbie D. (Debbie Attias) and Daphne D. (Daphne Gomez-Mena). Based in New York City, they emerged as part of the electroclash scene and released their debut single “The Sex That I Need” / “Dancin’” (2003). Their music combined hip hop, electro, and new wave with sexually explicit lyrics. They released the album Grade D Beef (2002) and achieved a chart success with the single “Do I Look Like a Slut?” (2004), which reached number 8 on the Billboard Hot Dance Singles Sales chart in 2005. They collaborated with the project The Twin on the track “Fire-Desire” (2004) for the album Yum Yum. They released several albums independently on their label Avenue Dreams, including Bootleg (2004), As Free as We Wanna Be (2006), and Eurawesome! (2006). They announced their split in 2007 and performed final shows in December of that year. Releases following the split include the box set Totally Magic/Grade D Beef/D Sides (2008).
