Avi Shmailov, known professionally as Astrix, was born on May 12, 1981, in the USSR and later moved to Tel Aviv, Israel. He began his DJ career at age 12, initially playing alternative music from the 1980s before discovering trance music in 1995. His first studio recordings were made on a PC, producing tracks in the 'nitzhonot' style of progressive Goa trance. Astrix signed with HOMmega Records in 2002 and released his debut album Eye To Eye, which gained international recognition. He collaborated on several projects, including working with Alien Project until their paths diverged. His second album, Artcore, was released in 2004. Astrix then focused on electronic dance music (EDM) compilations for labels like Tip and Hit Mania. He performed at major festivals such as Dance Valley, SW4, and Love Parade, and played in venues including Alexandra Palace and Pacha Ibiza. In 2007, he was ranked Number 18 among the top 100 DJs. Astrix released his third studio album Red Means Distortion in 2010, which included notable tracks like "Acid Rocker" and a remix of "Closer To Heaven". He continued to produce mix sessions under the name "Trance for Nations".
