Biography

Arkady Shilkloper is a Russian multi-instrumentalist and composer born on October 17, 1956, in Moscow. He performed in the jazz, classical, and avant-garde genres. Shilkloper studied at the Moscow Military Music School and the Moscow Gnessin Institute between 1976 and 1981. He performed in the orchestra of the Bolshoi Theatre from 1978 to 1985. In 1984, he recorded the studio album Move with bassist Mikhail Karetnikow. Shilkloper worked with pianist Mikhail Alperin starting in 1986 and released the recordings Wave of Sorrow (1990) and North Story (1997). He co-founded the Moscow Art Trio in 1990 and performed with Pago Libre from 1995. Shilkloper began playing the alphorn in 1998 and performed with the Vienna Art Orchestra until 2002. His discography included Hornology (1998), Pilatus (2000), and Presente para Moscou (2005). The International Horn Society designated him as an honorary member in 2019.
