Biography

Annisokay was founded in 2007 in Halle an der Saale. The band plays post-hardcore and alternative rock with metalcore elements. The name is based on Michael Jackson's song "Smooth Criminal", in which the protagonist Annie is robbed. The musicians want a happy ending to the story and therefore call the band "Ann is okay". The band currently consists of Rudi Schwarzer (shouts), Christoph Wieczorek (electric guitar, clean vocals), Peter Leukhardt (electric bass) and Silas Fischer (drums). Christoph Wieczorek is the only remaining founding member. He produces all of the band's albums in his Sawdust Recordings Studio in Halle and, as guitarist, vocalist and producer, plays a key role in shaping Annisokay's sound. The band undergoes several line-up changes over the course of its career. In 2019, the band parted ways with shouter Dave Grunewald, who had been a member since 2011. In October 2019, Annisokay introduced Rudi Schwarzer, who had previously been active in the hardcore bands Wither, LEAVE. and Arctic Island, as his successor. The two demos "My Ticket to Reno" and "The Point You Will Still Miss" were released in 2008 and 2009 . The self-financed debut EP You, Always followed in 2010. Annisokay released their first studio album The Lucid Dream[er] in 2012, initially in self-distribution. The album was mastered by Joey Sturgis, who had already worked with Asking Alexandria and We Came as Romans. In 2014, the band signed a worldwide record deal with SPV and the debut album was re-released. In the same year, Annisokay flew to the USA to work on their second album with producer Joey Sturgis. The second studio album Enigmatic Smile is released in 2015 via SPV and reaches number 68 in the German album charts. Devil May Care (2016) followed a year later, entering the German charts at number 74. Between the two albums, the band released the cover EP Annie Are You Okay? in 2016, on which they interpreted Michael Jackson songs such as "Beat It", "Thriller" and "They Don't Care About Us" in a metalcore guise. Annisokay has previously covered pop hits such as "Wrecking Ball" by Miley Cyrus and "Telephone" by Lady Gaga. In 2018, Annisokay switched from the SPV label to Arising Empire and released her fourth studio album Arms. The album reaches number 26 in the German charts and marks the band's biggest success to date. The album's successful singles include "Coma Blue", "Unaware" and "Good Stories". The band tours extensively through Europe, Japan, the USA and Russia. Appearances at the Summer Breeze Open Air, Rockharz Festival and Reload Festival follow. Annisokay plays support shows for Parkway Drive in sold-out venues in Moscow and St. Petersburg. In January 2021, the band's fifth studio album Aurora is released - the first with new shouter Rudi Schwarzer. The album climbs to number 18 in the German charts and reaches number 49 in Switzerland, making Annisokay's highest chart position in the band's history to date. Successful singles include "Like a Parasite", "STFU", "Face the Facts" and "Bonfire of the Millennials". 2023 sees the release of the EP Abyss Pt I with the singles "Human", "Throne of the Sunset" and "Calamity". The EP ushers in a new phase of work and is supplemented by Abyss Pt II in 2025. In November 2025, the band releases Abyss - The Final Chapter, an album that combines both EPs and adds three additional songs, including "Splinters", "My Effigy" and "Silent Anchor". Musically, Annisokay combines heavy guitar riffs and driving drum rhythms with an alternation between melodic clean vocals and aggressive shouts. The band integrates electronic elements, synths and pop melodies into their sound. Lyrically, Annisokay deals with extreme emotions, life, love and social topics such as climate change and social issues. Christoph Wieczorek emphasizes that the band has stopped following current trends and is instead going its own way.
