Biography

Anne Hytta (born 14 September 1974 in Sauland, Telemark, Norway) is a Norwegian traditional folk musician known for her expertise on the hardingfele. She studied with notable musicians such as Einar Løndal and Knut Buen. Her career gained prominence when she initiated the trio Slagr in 2003, which released their debut album Solaris in 2007 and followed it up with Straum, Stille in 2011. Hytta’s solo albums include Dag, Kveld, Natt (2006), Draumsyn (2014), and Strimur (2017). She has collaborated extensively with traditional musicians from many countries and plays medieval string instruments in the ensemble Kalenda Maya. Hytta’s work bridges traditional folk music, contemporary classical music, and other modal traditions, and she earned a scholarship to study with Ross Daly. She has performed at the Osa Festival and, through Slagr, received ensemble support from Norsk kulturråd.
