Men Without Hats, a Canadian synthpop band from Montreal, Quebec, was formed in 1977. The group initially consisted of Ivan Doroschuk on vocals, Pete Seabrooke on guitar, Dave Hill on bass, Pierre Paquet on saxophone, and John Gurrin on drums. Their early years saw the release of their first EP Folk of the 80's in 1980, marking a transition from punk rock to new wave. The band achieved significant success with their single "The Safety Dance" from the album Rhythm of Youth, released in 1982. This track reached number 1 in over twenty countries by September 1983 and became a top hit on various international charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart. Following this breakthrough, Men Without Hats continued to release albums such as Folk of the 80's (Part III) in 1984 and Pop Goes the World in 1987. Their album The Adventures of Women & Men Without Hate in the 21st Century, released in 1989, included a cover of ABBAâs "SOS". The band underwent several lineup changes and took a hiatus from 1993 to 2010. Ivan Doroschuk reformed the group in 2010, leading to new releases like Love in the Age of War in 2012. Men Without Hats continued to perform and release music, including Again, Pt. 1 in 2021 and Again, Pt. 2 in 2022, maintaining their presence in the synthpop genre. On November 14, 2025, the band returned with ninth album, On the Moon.
