Andy Leek (born 1958 in England) was an English singer, songwriter, poet and musician whose career spanned several decades. Leek began performing with the progressive punk band Wailing Cocks, releasing two singles on the independent label Birds Nest and recording sessions for John Peelâs Radioâ¯1 show before the bandâs dissolution. In late 1979 he joined Dexys Midnight Runners and contributed to the hit single "Geno" and the debut album Searching for the Young Soul Rebels. After leaving the group, Leek pursued a solo path, signing with Beggars Banquet and releasing the doubleâAâside single "Move On (In Your Maserati)" / "Ruben Decides" in 1980. His first solo album, Say Something, was released in 1988 on Atlantic Records and produced by Sir George Martin; singles "Please Please" and "Holdin' Onto You" followed. Subsequent releases included Eternity Beckons (circa 1997), Sacrifice and Bliss (unissued, 2000), Midnight Music (2009), Say Something Revisited (2010), and Waking Up the World (2013). Leekâs work saw chart success in Lebanon, where "Say Something" reached Number 1 during the civil war, and in Germany with "All Around the World". He continued to record and perform until his death from Parkinsonâs disease on 3 November 2024 at age 66.
