Biography

Andy Laster, born on May 25, 1961, in Bethpage, New York, is an American jazz saxophonist. He studied jazz at the Cornish College of the Arts before moving to New York City. Laster's career began with his own groups, releasing several albums for Sound Aspects such as Hippo Stomp (1989) and Twirler (1990). His band Hydra featured notable musicians such as Herb Robertson and Drew Gress. Throughout the 1990s, Laster collaborated with prominent artists like Dave Douglas, Tim Berne, John Zorn, and George Schuller. Subsequent solo albums include Interpretations of Lessness (1997) and Riptide (2011). Laster also played with Marty Ehrlich's band the Long View, Mark Helias, Hank Roberts’ Birds of Prey, and Lyle Lovett.
