Biography

Peter Franklin Delano, also known as Peter Delano, born on September 28, 1976, in New York City, is an American jazz pianist and composer. Influenced by Thelonious Monk, McCoy Tyner, and Keith Jarrett, Delano began his musical journey at a young age. At 12, he became the youngest participant in the New School Jazz Program. He played with Digable Planets and studied under Garry Dial from 1988 to 1990. Delano's breakthrough came when he was discovered by Guy Eckstine, which led to his debut album Peter Delano in 1993 on Verve Records, featuring collaborations with Gary Bartz, Michael Brecker, and Lewis Nash. He continued his education at Columbia University while he released his second album, Bite of the Apple, in 1994. Throughout his career, Delano performed with notable musicians such as Chris Potter, Craig Handy, and Joe Locke, and as a sideman for Mark Whitfield and Dewey Redman. In 2008, he released the album For Dewey.
