Biography

Andrea Motis is a Spanish jazz singer, trumpeter, and saxophonist who was born in 1995 in Barcelona. She began her musical education on the trumpet at age seven and joined the Sant Andreu Jazz Band at age twelve. Motis achieved a major breakthrough in 2010 with the release of her debut studio album, Joan Chamorro presenta Andrea Motis. Her early career included performances as a guest of Quincy Jones at the Festival de Peralada and tours across Europe. In 2017, Motis became the first Catalan artist to record for the prestigious label Impulse! Records, releasing the studio album Emotional Dance. This recording marked her debut as a composer and featured the original song “If You Give Them More Than You Can” (2017). Her subsequent recordings include the studio albums Do Outro Lado do Azul (2019), Colors & Shadows (2021), and Loopholes (2022). She has collaborated with a variety of international artists, including a duet with cellist Yo-Yo Ma on the Catalonian folk song “El cant dels ocells”. Her recent recordings include the studio album Febrero (2024).
