John Pizzarelli is the son of guitarist John "Bucky" Pizzarelli, whose instrument he succeeds. Born in Paterson, New Jersey, on April 6, 1960, he followed his father's path rather than his other passion, baseball, and joined the quartet of his brother, bassist Martin Pizzarelli. Also a composer, singer and bandleader, he has recorded over thirty albums under his own name for labels such as P-Vine, Chesky, RCA and Concord, and collaborated with many other artists: in addition to duets with his father on seven albums from 1980 to 2011, he has played or sung with his wife, singer Jessica Molaskey, George Shearing and Rosemary Clooney. This great admirer of The Beatles has devoted one recording to the group, Meet the Beatles (1998), and another to Paul McCartney's repertoire(Midnight McCartney, 2015). He has also paid tribute to his peers Nat "King" Cole(Dear Mr. Cole, 1994 and P.S. Mr. Cole, 1999), Frank Sinatra(Dr. Mr. Sinatra, 2006), Johnny Mercer and Duke Ellington(Rockin' in Rhythm, 2010), as well as Brazilian rhythms(Brazil, 2000 and Bossa Nova, 2004). In 2021, he turned to Pat Metheny's repertoire in Better Days Ahead, followed by musical comedy and film classics in Stage & Screen (2023), and a tribute to Tony Bennett, Dear Mr. Bennett (2026).
