Biography

Amy Victoria Wadge (December 22, 1975) is a Bristol-born singer-songwriter who, while gigging and releasing her own material, has written for artists including Ed Sheeran, James Blunt, Kylie Minogue and John Legend. Wadge grew up under the influence of her music-loving father, who introduced her to the work of Elton John, Joni Mitchell, and James Taylor. By the age of 9, she was already writing her own songs on the family piano and at 11 she took to the guitar. She moved to Wales to study and found herself at the heart of a vibrant Welsh music scene, performing at open mic nights and developing a fanbase. Among her growing fans and supporters was Greg Haver, a producer who had already worked with the Manic Street Preachers, Super Furry Animals, and Catatonia, who produced her 2002 debut mini-album, The Famous Hour. In both 2002 and 2003, Wadge won Best Female Solo Artist at the Welsh Music Awards and, in the latter year, toured Australia with the Welsh rugby team and performed "Adre Nôl" at Rugby World Cup games. In 2004, she released her first full-length album Woj, one in a flurry of releases through the early 2000s. Subsequently, Wadge penned a string of hits for chart-topping artists, most notably Ed Sheeran. His early EP, Songs I Wrote With Amy (2010), was named after Wadge and she co-wrote the Number 1 single “Thinking Out Loud” from Sheeran's third album in 2014. Amy Wadge resumed her career with an eponymous full-length in 2016 and wrote the music for BBC Wales’ Keeping Faith, later released on the EPs Keeping Faith (2018) and Keeping Faith - Series 2 (2019), which included the track “Steve’s Song.” The third volume of music from the series arrived in 2021.
