Biography
Aldemaro Romero, born on Marchâ¯12,â¯1928 in Valencia, Venezuela, was a Venezuelan musician, composer, arranger, and conductor. After studying with his father, he moved to Caracas in 1942, performed in nightclubs, and toured Cuba and travelled to Newâ¯York in 1949. In 1951 he joined RCA Victor, releasing the breakthrough Dinner In Caracas (1955) that launched his Dinner In⦠series. He followed with albums such as CriollÃsima (1957), El Garrasi (1959), La Onda Maxima (1972), and Onda Nueva / The New Wave (1974), collaborating with Dean Martin, Jerry Lee Lewis, Tito Puente and Stan Kenton, and touring Mexico, Colombia, Spain, France, Greece, Russia and Japan. Romero founded the Caracas Philharmonic Orchestra in 1979, conducted the London Symphony Orchestra, and earned the Peace Prize of the Soviet Intellectuals in 1969 and the National Music Prize in 2000. He died in Caracas on Septemberâ¯15,â¯2007.
