Alastis was a Swiss extreme metal band formed in 1987 in Sion, Valais. Initially known as Fourth Reich, they changed their name to Alastis in 1989 and transitioned from death metal to black metal. Their debut album, The Just Law, was released in 1992 under Head Not Found Records. In 1995, Alastis signed with Adipocere Records for their second album, ...And Death Smiled. The band's lineup underwent several changes and they toured with Anathema and Theatre of Tragedy that same year. Their subsequent albums included The Other Side (1997), which featured the track "In Darkness" and was promoted at the Wacken Open Air festival, and Revenge (1998). The band's final album, Unity, was released in 2001 on Century Media Records. Alastis disbanded in 2004 after building a home studio for their intended sixth album, which was never recorded.
