Biography

Akihiro Miwa (May 15, 1935 – June 20, 2026; born in Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture) was a Japanese singer, singer-songwriter, actor, and director.His music centered on J-POP and chanson, and he was known for his unique singing style, characterized by deep emotion and literary depth.He rose to fame in 1957 with the smash hit “Meke Meke” and subsequently released numerous signature songs, including “Yoitomake no Uta” (1965) and “Ai no Sanka.” His representative works include the albums *The World of AkihiroMiwa* (1987), *A Gift of Love* (1991), and *Singing of "Love"* (2001).In addition to his career as a singer, he received high acclaim for his work in theater and film, and was honored with awards such as the Japan Art Academy Prize and the Order of Cultural Merit. He was one of the leading figures in introducing chanson to a wide audience in Japan, and through his original compositions, he continued to convey messages centered on love, life, and peace, leaving a significant legacy in Japan’s music and performing arts communities.
