Agustà Fernández, born in 1954 in Palma, is a Spanish pianist and composer. He began his musical journey with classical piano lessons as a child and became a professional musician at age 13. His discovery of Cecil Taylor's and Iannis Xenakis' music led him to the avant-garde scene. Fernández studied music in Barcelona before continuing his education under Xenakis in France from 1978. His international breakthrough came in 1987 at the second Biennale of Young Creative Artists in Thessaloniki, leading to performances at major European festivals and the recording of his first solo album. Throughout his career, Fernández collaborated with numerous choreographers and composed for ballet, theater, film, and television. He founded several ensembles, including Orquestra del Caos and Big Ensemble del Taller de Músics, and was a founding member of Collectivo Improvisadors de Barcelona. In 2001, he became an extraordinary professor for improvisation at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya. His album Aurora (2006) was named Album of the Year by the Spanish magazine Cuadernos de Jazz in 2007.
