Biography
Adam Lane, born September 22, 1968, in the United States of America, is an American jazz bassist and composer. He earned degrees from Wesleyan University and CalArts, studying under Anthony Braxton, Wadada Leo Smith, and Daniel Rothman. In 1996, Lane attended the International Music Institute Darmstadt. Lane's career began with collaborations in ensembles like Fo(u)r Being(s) with John Tchicai, Paul Smoker, and Barry Altschul. His debut album, Fo(ur) Being(s), was released in 2002. Notable works include Zero Degree Music (2005), 4 Corners (2007), and Drunk Butterfly (2008). He has worked with artists such as Louie Bellogenis, Vinny Golia, and Darius Jones. Lane's Full Throttle Orchestra performed at the Ljubljana Jazz Festival in 2013. He has received awards including the New Langton Arts Bay Area Creative Artist Award and the Julius Hemphill Award, and resides alternately in New York and San Francisco.
