Abigail Francine Lassman, known professionally as Abbe Lane, was born on December 14, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York. She began her career as a child performer in Broadway theaters and later joined the troupe of Cuban-inspired musician Xavier Cugat in the early 1950s, whom she married in 1952. Lane's musical output was heavily influenced by Latin rhythms such as mambo, cha-cha-cha, and rumba. Her debut album, Be Mine Tonight, was released in 1957 with Tito Puente and his orchestra. She continued to release albums including The Lady In Red (1958), Where Thereâs A Man (1959), and Abbe Lane With Xavier Cugat And His Orchestra (1961). Lane also pursued an acting career, appearing in films such as A Night of Fame (1949) and Chicago Syndicate (1955).
