Biography
Zozobra was an American sludge metal and post-metal band from Santa Fe, New Mexico, that was active between 2006 and 2018. The ensemble was founded by the vocalist and bassist Caleb Scofield as a vehicle for his own songwriting and included the guitarist Adam McGrath and the drummer JR Conners. They achieved early professional recognition after touring the United States with the groups Isis and Jesu in 2007. They are famous for a musical style that bridged experimental hardcore with sludge metal. Their discography includes the studio recordings Harmonic Tremors (2007), which featured the drummer Santos Montano, and Bird of Prey (2008), featuring Aaron Harris. The ensemble released its final studio recording, Savage Masters, in 2013. Following the death of Scofield in 2018, contributors to the band's recordings have performed live sets of Zozobra compositions as a tribute to him.
