Biography

Mames Babegenush, a Danish Klezmer band formed in 2004 in Copenhagen, began as a group of friends aiming to revitalize the world music and klezmer scene. Initially performing at Jewish weddings and bar mitzvahs, they introduced "klezmer attack," spontaneous concerts in public spaces. Their debut album, Klezmer Killed The Radiostar, was released in 2009, followed by My Heart Aches When the Angels Dance in 2011. Notable performances include Carnegie Hall and Paradiso. In 2014, they released their self-titled album featuring collaborations with Tine Rehling and LiveStrings. Their album Mames Babegenush With Strings was released in 2017 and won Folk Album of the Year awarded by the Danish Publishers. The band has toured extensively across Denmark, Europe, the US, and Argentina, performing at festivals like Roskilde Festival.
