Biography

The Dominican 'bachata' and salsa artist Zacarías Ferreira was brought up in the Tamboril area during the 1970s. It's a region of the Dominican Republic famed for its rich musical heritage and tradition, and Ferreira's family were music lovers who encouraged their son to pursue his dream of becoming a professional singer. Ferreira left Tanboril and moved to the capital of Santo Domingo where he enrolled in the National Conservatory to further his ambitions. He began performing with a local group who played in the 'bachata' genre, a blend of Latin American music which draws influences from African and European music and combines them with traditional Latin styles. He went on to become a singer for a local ensemble affiliated to the Brugal rum company, a position he held for five years until releasing his critically-acclaimed debut album 'Me Liberé in 1998 which went on to receive two prestigious music industry awards. Ferreira has gone on to create an impressive recording catalogue of some 16 albums, the most recent of which was his 2017 release 'El Amor'.
