Biography

Born in San José de las Matas, Dominican Republic on September 6, 1963, merengue and bachata singer and guitarist Alex Bueno is one of the most respected vocalists in Latin America. Moving to Santo Domingo when still a teenager, he began his career in 1979 as a member of Gerardo Vera’s All-Stars. Alex Bueno formed his own tropical act, Alex Buena Y Orquesta Liberación. By the early 1990s, he had gone solo and released albums such as his 1990 self-titled album and ¡Como Nadie! (1991) before releasing the record-breaking Temuras (1992), his most successful release yet. Moving his focus to bachata music for the album Bachata A Su Tiempo (1998), the release proved to be yet another great success and took bachata music to an international audience. His next album of bachata music, Corazón Duro (2000), was even more successful and featured the hit single “Que Vuelva.” He continued to release more albums that would focus on romantic or merengue music but was drawn back to bachata and released the album Pideme in 2002. However, the pressures of achieving success at such a young age led him to drug and alcohol abuse and his career came to a halt. He spent many years overcoming his addiction and, with the encouragement of his fans, he began rebuilding his career and hopes to be more successful than before.
