Biography

Aníbal Augusto Sardinha, known professionally as Garoto, was born on June 28, 1915, in São Paulo, Brazil. He began playing various plucked string instruments at a young age and started performing locally by 11. His professional career launched in the early 1930s with ensembles like Verde e Amarelo and Chorões Sertanejos. In 1939, he joined Carmen Miranda's ensemble, Bando da Lua, touring the United States and appearing in films such as Down Argentine Way (1940) and That Night in Rio (1941). Garoto returned to Brazil in 1940. He continued his career in radio and recording studios, collaborating with Radamés Gnattali. Garoto passed away on May 3, 1955.
