Biography
Andile Yenana, born in 1968, in King Williamâs Town, South Africa, is a pianist known for his contributions to jazz. Yenana's early exposure to jazz came through his father's extensive record collection. He studied at the Fort Hare University and later enrolled in the jazz program at the University of KwaZulu-Natal under Darius Brubeck, where he met fellow musicians Zim Ngqawana and Feya Faku. In Durban, Yenana formed his own band and collaborated with artists such as Concord Nkabinde and Dumisane Shange before joining Ngqawana's band in Johannesburg, touring internationally. He co-founded the group Voice, releasing albums and touring in Scandinavia. His own albums include We Used To Dance (2002) and Who's Got The Map? (2005). Yenana has worked as an arranger for artists like Sibongile Khumalo and Gloria Bosman, and he received a South African Music Award for producing Winston Mankunkuâs album Abantwana be Afrika (2003).
