Biography

Yann-Fanch Kemener, born Jean-FranÃ§ois QuÃ©mener on April 7, 1957, in Saint-Triphin, France, was a Breton folk singer. Raised in a family with strong musical traditions, Kemener began performing at a young age. His breakthrough came in 1976 when he won the Kan ar Bobl competition. In 1977, Kemener released his debut album Chants profonds de Bretagne. He was notably awarded the Grand Prix du Patrimoine from the AcadÃ©mie Charles-Cros in 1982. Kemener was also a founding member of the group Barzaz in 1988. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, he continued to release albums such as Roue Gralon Ni Ho Salud! (1993), Kan Ha Diskan (1997), and Kimiad (1998). Kemener passed away on March 16, 2019.
