Biography
TÃr na nÃg, formed in Dublin, Ireland in 1969 by Leoâ¯OâKelly and Sonnyâ¯Condell, emerged from a shared interest in folk songwriting and Celtic tradition. The duo secured a deal with Chrysalis Records and released their debut album TÃr na nÃg in 1971, which received Melody Makerâs Album of the Month; it was followed by A Tear and a Smile (1972) and Strong in the Sun (1973), the latter featuring producer Matthewâ¯Fisher and a cover of "Free Ride". Their intricate acoustic work and close harmony earned comparisons to Pentangle and The Incredible String Band, though they maintained a distinct sound. After touring as support for acts such as Jethroâ¯Tull, Procolâ¯Harum, and Theâ¯Who, the band disbanded in 1974, with both members pursuing solo projects-Condell released Camouflage (1977) and formed Scullion, while OâKelly became a producer and solo artist. TÃr na nÃg reâformed in 1985, issuing the single "Love Is Like a Violin" and later albums In the Morning (1999), Hibernian (2000), and The Dark Dance (2015), as well as the live albums Live at the Half Moon (2016), Live 1970â71 (2022), and Love Lost â Live in Bremen 1973 (2023).
