Biography

Yüksel Özkasap, born December 28, 1945, in Malatya, Turkey, is a Turkish singer who became one of the most prominent voices of the Turkish diaspora in Germany. She moved to Germany in the 1960s, where she was discovered by producer Yılmaz Asöcal of the Türküola label. Özkasap gained popularity with songs reflecting migrant life (“Gurbet” songs) and built a large recorded repertoire. Despite achieving major commercial success and earning several gold records, her popularity remained largely within the Turkish community and did not extend widely into the German mainstream. Her discography includes albums like Gülom (1969) and Beyaz alti (1975)
