Xabier Lete Bergaretxe, born on April 5, 1944, in Oiartzun, Gipuzkoa, Spain, was a Basque singer, poet, writer, and politician. He started his musical career in 1965 with the band Ez Dok Amairu, which included Mikel Laboa, Benito Lertxundi, Joxean Artze, Jose Angel Irigarai, and Lourdes Iriondo. The group disbanded in 1972, but Lete continued collaborating with Lourdes Iriondo, who later became his wife. His debut album "Kantatzera noazu" was released in 1976. Throughout his career, he released several albums including "Txirritaren bertsoak" (1979), "Eskeintza" (1981), and "Hurbil iragana" (1982). Lete also had a notable literary career, publishing his first book of poems "Egunetik egunera orduen gurpilean" in 1968. He received the Basque Literature Award in October 2009 for "Egunsentiaren esku izotzak" (Frozen Hands of the Dawn) and was made a member of Jakiunde, the Basque Academy of Science, Art and Letters, in April 2009. Lete passed away on December 4, 2010, following a serious illness.
