Biography

Wolfgang Wilhelm Lackerschmid, born on September 19, 1956, in Tegernsee, Germany, is a German jazz musician, bandleader, and composer. He studied composition/music theory and percussion at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart from 1975 to 1980. Lackerschmid's career began with his ensemble Mallet Connection in 1976, which released their self-titled LP that same year. In 1978, he was invited to the first Vibraphone Summit. A significant breakthrough came in 1979 when Lackerschmid collaborated with Chet Baker on the album Ballads for Two, followed by Chet Baker / Wolfgang Lackerschmid. Throughout his career, Lackerschmid released several albums including Originals (1988) and Joana's Dance (2000). He composed for various theater productions such as Schneewittchen, Faust, and Peer Gynt. Lackerschmid also toured extensively, particularly in the United States.
