Biography

Wolfgang Dauner was a German jazz pianist who had a major influence on jazz in Germany from his debut in 1965 with the album 'Dream Talk' to his death, aged 84, in January 2020. He had stints with several ensembles including Et Cetera and the Free Sound & Super Brass Big Band. With trombonist Albert Mangelsdorff, trumpet player Ack van Rooyen, saxophonist Charlie Mariano, bassist Eberhard Weber and guitarist Volker Kriegel, he established the United Jazz + Rock Ensemble in 1975. Albums include 'Free Action' (1967), 'Et Cetera' (1971), 'Hut Ab/Two Is Company' (2010) and two with his son, drummer Florian Dauner - 'Dauner/Dauner' (2013) and 'Elektronische Mythen'.
