Biography

Bill William Edward Davison, known as "Wild" Bill Davison, was born on January 5, 1906, in Defiance, Ohio. He began his career playing cornet in various jazz bands during the 1920s. In 1931, he formed his own band with clarinettist Frank Teschemacher. Davison moved to New York City in 1940 and later joined Eddie Condon's band, playing regularly until 1957. He collaborated with notable musicians such as George Brunies, Sidney Bechet, and Bud Freeman. In the 1960s and 1970s, Davison undertook various European tours and played at festivals worldwide. He was a member of Papa Bue’s Viking Jazzband from 1975 to 1977 while living in Copenhagen. Davison returned to the United States in 1979 and remained active until his death on November 14, 1989. His notable albums include The Wild Bill Tapes (1989) and Together Again (1992).
