Biography
Wilbert Hazelzet, born November 20, 1948 in The Hague, Netherlands, is a Dutch flutist specializing in Baroque repertoire and historically informed performance on period instruments. After completing secondary education, he worked in libraries and trained as a nurse before being encouraged by Kees Otten, Frans Vester, and Frans Brüggen to begin playing the Baroque transverse flute in 1970. He joined Musica Antiqua Köln in 1978 under Reinhard Goebel and became solo flutist for the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra in 1985. His recordings include Concerti da camera (1981), Concertos baroques français (1984), and Musique pour flûte des élèves de Bach (1997). Hazelzet has recorded flute solos for Johann Sebastian Bach's cantatas, Georg Philipp Telemann, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and became a professor of transverse flute at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and the Utrecht School of the Arts.
