Biography
Wenge Musica Maison Mère, formed in Decemberâ¯1997 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, emerged from the split of Wenge Musica. The founding trio of Werrason, Didier Masela, and Adolphe Dominguez carried forward the soukous tradition. The bandâs breakthrough came with their 1998 debut album Force d'Intervention Rapide, which featured the remix of "Kalayi Boeing" and the rumbaâinfused hit "Chantal Switzerland". In 1999, Solola Bien! was released, earning a gold record in France and selling over 100,000 copies there while topping charts across Africa. The 2002 double album à La Queue LeuâLeu (Koyimbi Ko!) expanded the groupâs repertoire and solidified its status, followed by the 2004 single "Alerte Générale", which sparked a dance craze. Subsequent releases, including SousâSol (2006), Techno Malewa (2009), and Formidable (2019), maintained commercial success, while Werrason and the ensemble received multiple Kora Award nominations and soldâout performances at venues such as the Palais Omnisports de ParisâBercy and the Zénith Paris.
