Habib Faye was a Senegalese musician and composer born on November 22, 1965, in Senegal. He began playing music at age nine and was influenced by his brother, the guitarist Vieux Mac Faye. Faye joined Youssou NâDour's ensemble Super Ãtoile de Dakar in 1984 and served as the groupâs musical director. He contributed to the track "Bekoor" (1984) and the studio recording The Guide (1994). In 1988, he performed on the Amnesty International Human Rights Now world tour alongside musicians including Peter Gabriel, Sting, and Bruce Springsteen. Faye recorded for the Peter Gabriel album The Lion and played bass for Mickey Hartâs recording Mystery Box (1996). His professional work included a performance on the DVD Live at Union Chapel (2003). In 2007, he collaborated with Angélique Kidjo on the album Djin Djin, which received a Grammy Award in 2008. Faye performed within the Mbalax, Afrobeat, and jazz genres. He died on April 25, 2018, in Paris.
