Wasara, a Finnish rock and heavy metal band from Lohja, traces its origins to 1996, when Antti Ã
ström, Ipi Kiiskinen, and Mikko Nevanlahti decided to form a band under the name Ali Baba. In 1999, the group changed its name to Wasara, an old Finnish orthography for âhammer.â The group released two demos, Sinulle (2000) and the self-titled Wasara (2002), before securing a deal with Firebox Records. Their debut album, Kaiken Kauniin Loppu, was released in 2003, supported by the single "Kivisade". Following the departure of Nevanlahti, Tuukka Heikurinen briefly took over on drums before Harri Lempinen joined the lineup. The group's second album, Meistä On Maa Täysi, came out in 2005 under Roihu Records, featuring the single "Manan Maille". Lyrically, Wasara focused on themes of despair, sorrow, and pain, often drawing comparisons to early Amorphis. The band's third album, Hehku, was released in 2011 alongside the single "Kuollut On Kuollut". Although the group disbanded in early 2012, they later reunited for live performances by 2014, and remained active until at least March 2016.
