Walter Mossmann (1941â2015), born in Karlsruhe, was a German Liedermacher (singer-songwriter), author, and activist. Mossmann began a musical career in the mid-1960s with performances at the Folkfestivals on Burg Waldeck. Influenced by French chanson and Georges Brassens, Mossmann released the debut album Achterbahn-Chansons in 1967. Mossmann was active in the AuÃerparlamentarische Opposition (APO) and became a figure in the anti-nuclear movement, specifically protesting the Wyhl nuclear plant. His discography includes the albums GroÃe Anfrage (1968), Flugblattlieder (1975), Frühlingsanfang (1979), and Unruhiges Requiem (1983). In the mid-1990s, Mossmann lost his singing voice due to laryngeal cancer but remained active as a writer and director. Mossmann received the Deutscher Kleinkunstpreis in 1981 and the Ehren-RUTH lifetime achievement award in 2004. Mossmann died in Breisach on May 29, 2015.
