Walter Egan, born Walter Egan on July 12, 1948 in Queens, New York, is an American rock musician and singer. He began his career in the arts, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where he was one of the first sculpture majors. Initially focusing on printmaking and painting, Egan started playing guitar and composing songs with surf-rock group The Malibooz as early as 1965. While an undergraduate, he was also a lead guitarist and backup vocalist for Sageworth and Drums. Egan's breakthrough in music came in 1977 when Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac co-produced his first album, Fundamental Roll. His second album, Not Shy, released the following year, featured the hit single "Magnet and Steel", which reached number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 18 on the Easy Listening chart. The song was also featured in several films, including Boogie Nights (1997) and Overnight Delivery (1998). Egan collaborated with Buckingham again for his third album, Wild Exhibitions, released in 1983. He later toured as a member of Spirit and contributed to the Eminem hit "We Made You" through a sample from his song "Hot Summer Nights". In 2000, he produced The Lost Album and continued releasing albums over the next 20 years, returning with Fascination and Pluck! in 2021 and 2023 respectively.
