Biography
One of the biggest stars of the 1980s, the power ballads of Texan Christopher Cross came to define the adult orientated soft rock so prevalent during that period. Cross gained his early experience in the Austin band Flash, his songs creating sufficient interest to earn him a solo deal with Warner Brothers. He then released his self-titled debut solo album in 1980 and his first single Ride Like The Wind quickly rose to Number 2 in the US charts. However, it was second single Sailing which made him a superstar, topping charts all over the world. Further hits Never Be The Same and Say You'll Be Mine followed as Cross ushered in a new era of melodic rock, gaining further glory with Arthur's Theme for the smash hit Dudley Moore comedy movie Arthur, written with Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer Sager. Subsequent albums Another Page (1983), Every Turn Of The World (1985) and Back Of My Mind (1988) failed to match the success of his debut, though Cross continued to perform and in 2010 was working on a new studio album Dr Faith.
