Born Thibaud Vanhooland, the singer and trumpeter Voyou was born in Lille on October 24, 1989. As the son of a music teacher, he was exposed to music theory and instruments from an early age. Trained as a trumpeter, he studied at the conservatory from a very young age and spent his teenage years in Nantes, where he continued his musical pursuits. Also a bassist, he collaborated with local bands Rhum for Pauline, Elephanz, and Pégase before launching his own career under the name Voyov, and later Voyou. Signed to the A+LSO label, the songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and performer released the EPs Seul sur Ton Tandem (2017) and On SâEmmène avec Toi (2018), before recording his debut album Les Bruits de la Ville (2019), featuring Yelle on the title track and an expanded edition including the seven tracks from the EP Les Confettis en Désordre. A fourth EP released in 2020, Chroniques Terrestres (Vol. 1), was followed by the duet âSoleil soleilâ with November Ultra, included on his second album Les Royaumes Minuscules (2023). Following a collaboration with Albin de la Simone, on which he played trumpet and flugelhorn on Les Cent Prochaines Années (2023), the EP Seul was released in 2024, featuring the duets âLe Balâ with Vanessa Paradis and âLes Tétonsâ with Pi Ja Ma. In 2025, the album Henri Salvador Est Un Voyou pays tribute to the author of âDans mon îleâ through eleven covers, among the most tender in his repertoire. In 2026, Voyou resumed his series with Chroniques Terrestres, Vol. 2, an album blending songs and trumpet pieces, featuring appearances by rapper Tuerie and Belgian singer Lubiana.
