Biography
Vlatko Stefanovski is a Macedonian guitarist and composer who was born in Prilep, PR Macedonia, FPR Yugoslavia, in 1957. He achieved early professional recognition in 1977 as a founding member of the ensemble Leb i Sol and is famous for his guitar virtuosity and for pioneering the âethno-rockâ genre, which fuses rock and roll with Macedonian folk elements. With Leb i Sol, he recorded 13 albums between 1978 and 1991, including the studio recordings Leb i Sol (1978) and Kao kakao (1987). During this period, he also performed the guitar solo for the YU Rock Misija track "Za milion godina" (1985), which was the Yugoslav contribution to Band Aid. Following the dissolution of the band, he launched a solo career and established the VS Trio in 1998. His discography includes the studio recordings Zodiac (1990), Cowboys & Indians (1994), and Sarajevo (1996). Stefanovski has collaborated extensively with the guitarist Miroslav TadiÄ, releasing the albums Krushevo (1998) and Treta majka (2004), and is a member of the acoustic supergroup Kings of Strings. He has also composed numerous scores for theater and film, including Gypsy Magic (1997). For his work, he received the Serbian Oscar of Popularity for Concert of the Year in 2010.
