Biography
Kirk P. Kelly, born circa 1960 on Long Island, New York, is an American folk singer and songwriter known for his labor activism. Influenced by folk revival artists and punk bands like the Ramones and the Clash, Kelly began performing in the early 1980s. He co-founded the "anti-folk" movement after being banned from open mics at Gerde's Folk City. His first recording was a duo with Lach as "The Folk Brothers" in 1985 on their cassette-only release All Folked up with Nowhere to Go. Kelly's debut solo album, Go Man Go, was released in 1988 on the punk label SST. In 1997, he released his second album, New City, through his own label, Mugsy Records. His cover of "Downbound Train" appeared on the Springsteen tribute album Light of Day in 2003.
