Cheryl Wheeler, born July 10, 1951 in Timonium, Maryland, is an American folk singer-songwriter. She began playing ukulele and guitar in middle school and writing songs in high school. Early in her career, Wheeler started performing at clubs in Washington D.C., and Baltimore before moving to Providence, Rhode Island in 1976.
Wheeler released her first EP, Newport Songs, in 1983. The song "Addicted" from her self-titled album (1986) became a Number 1 hit for country singer Dan Seals in 1988 on Billboard's Top 40 Country chart. Wheeler was signed to Capitol Records and released Circles and Arrows in 1990, which included "Aces", recorded by Suzy Bogguss and reaching number 9 on the country charts in 1992. Her next four albumsâDriving Home (1993), Mrs. Pinocci's Guitar (1995), Sylvia Hotel (1999), and Defying Gravity (2005)âwere produced by Philo-Rounder Records. In 2014, Wheeler was inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame.
