Biography
Vincent Ségal, born April 27, 1967 in Reims (Marne), is a French cellist, double bassist, composer and producer. He studied at the Conservatoire de Reims and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon, where he won a first prize, before moving to Paris. There, he collaborated with numerous musicians from classical, contemporary, jazz, rock and African genres. He made his name with the duo Bumcello, formed with Cyril Atef, who won a Victoire de la Musique for the album Animal Sophistiqué (2005), among other recordings since their formation in 1999. Also known for his many contributions, Vincent Ségal pursues a long-term collaboration with Malian kora player Ballaké Sissoko. Together, they have recorded the albums Chamber Music (2009), Musique de Nuit (2015) and Sou Kora (2025, as well as Les Ãgarés (2023), with contributions from accordionist Vincent Peirani and saxophonist Ãmile Parisien. Other collaborations include those with Jean-Jacques Birgé, Piers Faccini, Yacine Boulares, Lionel Suarez, Harrison Kennedy and Jean-Jacques Milteau, Sébastien Surel, François Jeanneau and Stéphane Kerecki. In 2026, Vincent Ségal teamed up with Cuban pianist Roberto Fonseca for the album Nuit Parisienne à la Havane.
