Biography

Maya Beiser, born on December 31, 1963, in Gazit, Israel, is an American cellist. Raised on a kibbutz by her French mother and Argentine father, Beiser initially played the piano before switching to the cello. At age twelve, she was discovered by violinist Isaac Stern, marking the beginning of her solo career. Beiser graduated from Yale University School of Music in 1987. Her discography includes studio recordings, film music collaborations, and solo albums like Oblivión (1999) and Kinship (2000). Notable collaborations include works with composers Louis Andriessen, Steve Reich, and Philip Glass. Beiser has produced multimedia concerts for Carnegie Hall, such as World To Come. She appeared as a featured soloist on the soundtracks of films like Blood Diamond and The Happening.
