Biography
American alternative rock band, Veruca Salt, from Chicago, Illinois, was formed in 1993 by Louise Post and Nina Gordon. The group derived its name from a character in Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. After writing together for over a year, they were joined by Jim Shapiro on drums and Steve Lack on bass. Their breakthrough came with the release of their debut single "Seether" / "All Hail Me" in 1994, which led to a deal with Minty Fresh Records. The same year, Veruca Salt released their first album American Thighs, featuring "Seether" and "All Hail Me", both of which gained significant airplay on MTV. In 1996, they signed with Geffen Records and released the EP Blow It Out Your Ass It's Veruca Salt. Their second album, Eight Arms to Hold You (1997), included the single "Volcano Girls", which became the theme for the film Jawbreaker. The band toured extensively, opening for acts like Bush and replacing Pavement on their clip for Painted Soldiers. In 1998, Nina Gordon left Veruca Salt to pursue a solo career. Louise Post continued with new members, releasing Resolver in 2000 under her own label Velveteen Records. The band underwent several lineup changes and released additional albums including IV (2006) and Ghost Notes (2015). In 2013, the original lineup reunited and continued to perform and release new music.
