Biography

Verbena was an American rock band from Birmingham, Alabama, founded in the early 1990s by Scott Bondy, Anne Marie Griffin, Les Nuby, and Daniel Johnston. Initially known as Volume, the band underwent several name changes and lineup shifts before settling on Verbena. Their first release under this name was the EP Pilot Park (1996), followed by their debut album Souls For Sale (1997). Produced by Dave Fridmann, the album garnered attention from Dave Grohl, who produced their major-label debut Into The Pink (1999) for Capitol Records. The single "Baby Got Shot" received moderate modern rock radio airplay and its music video was featured on MTV2. After releasing La Musica Negra, Verbena disbanded in 2003.
