Vengeance Rising, an American Christian thrash metal band from Los Angeles, California, was formed in 1987 by vocalist Roger Martinez and other members including Larry Farkas, Doug Thieme, Roger Dale Martin, and Glen Mancaruso. The band initially performed under the name Vengeance but changed it to Vengeance Rising in 1989. Their debut album Human Sacrifice was released in 1988, followed by Once Dead in 1990. These albums are noted for their violent themes and graphic content. After the release of Once Dead, several members left to form Die Happy, but Martinez continued with Vengeance Rising, releasing two more studio albums: Destruction Comes in 1991 and Released Upon the Earth in 1992. The band's lineup changed frequently after their initial formation. Martinez later renounced his Christian faith and became an atheist.
