Biography

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 10, 1991, Valerie Broussard is a singer-songwriter best known for the song “Trouble,” which has been closely associated with the Six of Crowns book series by Leigh Bardugo. Interested in music and theater at a young age, she moved to London, England at the age of 18, where she discovered her love for classical opera and writing her own songs. She began releasing a series of digital singles including 2016’s “A Little Wicked” and “Trouble.” The following year, the latter single was used in a fan video inspired by author Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows books. The video went viral amongst Bardugo’s fanbase and the song is now closely associated with the author’s works. Valerie Broussard’ viral moment brought attention to her work and her 2019 single “Roots” climbed to number 25 on Billboard’s Dance Singles chart, followed two years later by “Sideways” (number 10). Subsequent singles include “Voyager” (2021), “Crash” (2022), “Chasing the Light” (2023), “Start a War” (2024) and “Hold Me Steady (Alt Version)” (2025).
