Biography

Composed of James Sunderland and Brett Hite, Los Angeles-based American band Frenship made a name for itself in 2013 with its refreshing blend of pop and 1980s sounds, driven by the musicians' two voices. After releasing several acclaimed singles, such as "Kids" and "Knives", with the help of Norwegian producer Matoma, and the Tears for Fears-tinged "Nowhere", the duo released "Capsize" in 2016. This quickly became one of the viral hits of summer 2016, with no less than 57 million listens worldwide and a presence on the US Billboard chart. This collaboration with singer Emily Warren was followed by "1000 Nights" and other singles, before the 2019 release of debut album Vacation, featuring contributions from British band Bastille and singer Yoke Lore. Returning after the Covid-19 pandemic, Frenship releases a series of new tracks throughout 2022 and in 2023, the six-track EP Base Camp, featuring collaborations from Drew Sycamore and King Henry. In 2024, the album Leavenworth features Bizzy.
